Bloggers Night Out

October 23rd, 2011 — 3:07pm

It’s been an action-packed week — with multiple events that have provided much-needed distractions from work craziness and dating doldrums.

The post-nine to five fun kicked off Tuesday, with Single Edition Media’s Bloggers Break-Night Out at hair salon in Tribeca. While sipping some delicious pisco cocktails, I joined a few dozen fabulous fellow bloggers – including Jess Downey, Taylor Cast and Liza of Off Market Girl – in watching Rare’s talented team transform @nesbizzle.

Hair care 101: Nicole Nesbitt (a.k.a nesbizzle) gets primped by the stylists at Rare during a demo at Bloggers Break-Night Out

Liza told me what she doesn’t miss about being in single in her native South Carolina (the trend of going from college to marriage), while Single Edition founder Sherri Langburt told everyone about all of the company’s resources available to bloggers. Members of Single Edition’s have access to workshops in advertising, PR and media training, not to mention plenty of fabulous networking opportunities. It’s a great community to be a part of, so if you’re a single blogger, check it out.

Sherri talked about how much the network has grown since launching about a year ago, with big brands finally beginning to recognize that single consumers are just as valuable as any other demographic.

The event’s yummy sponsors clearly know that. Rustic Crust teamed up with American Flatbread to serve delicious pizzas that tasted anything but pre-made. Antioxidant-loaded energy drink Bai offered a boost with samples of three different flavors (peach was my favorite).

Up next…inside Urban Girl Squad’s latest mingling event and a college mini-reunion to remember.

Celebrating National Unmarried And Single Americans Week

September 20th, 2010 — 9:27am

This week is National Unmarried and Single Americans Week. According to the U.S. Census bureau, there are an estimated 84 million single and unmarried adults in the United States. To celebrate all of these non-couples, SingleWomenRule.com will be hosting its Second Annual Blog Crawl and this year, and Single Gal In The City will be part of it!

What’s a blog crawl? It’s a like a pub crawl (minus the booze, unless you want to enjoy a glass of bubbly in the comfort of your home) on your computer and it lasts a full week!

Here’s how it works: Singlewomenrule.com will guide visitors to a different blog each day, for seven days, to read a guest post by one of seven featured writers. The blog crawl is designed to show case some of the most influential and talented writers and blogs in the online singles community. I am participating as a writer today, guest blogging on Cupid’s Pulse about the differences of dating in Europe vs. the U.S.

Also, to celebrate, SGITC is giving away three tickets to Single Edition’s upcoming “Live The Life You Love” event series. The dates are September 21st, October 12th and November 2 and Single Edition is offering 1 free ticket to each event. For more information about the series, . Email me ASAP if you’re interested!

Bloggers In Babeland Party

August 10th, 2010 — 3:45pm

Friday, after day one of BlogHer ‘10, I headed down to SoHo for SingleEdition.com’s Bloggers in Babeland party.

Bloggers In Babeland: Cyber Dating Expert Julie Spira, me and SingleEdition.com’s Sherri Langburt

While taking in the, ahem, colorful products at the sex toy shop, I had the chance to catch up with some of the best dating bloggers out there — including t, Jack from Brooklyn & .

I also spent some time with SingleEdition.com founder and friend Sherri. Recently back from Spain, Sherri gave me a great icebreaking tip for mingling on my upcoming European Dating Blitz — bring sunflower seeds to share with fellow bar patrons. Sounds delicious to me.

The soiree was a celebration for the fantastic new network that SingleEdition is launching for single bloggers. This is a great opportunity to grow readership and connect with fellow bloggers and advertising partners. I can’t wait to sign up.

For more info about the network and how you can be a part of it, email info@singleedition.com.

Up next…up close and personal with Nate Berkus and a report from the red carpet premiere of Eat, Pray, Love!

BlogHer ’10: Day One

August 6th, 2010 — 11:08pm

Today, I headed over to the Hilton New York in Midtown for day one of BlogHer ‘10.

Attracting 2,400 female bloggers from all over the country, BlogHer can be as overwhelming as it is exciting. Thankfully, since this is my second year in attendance, I felt like I had a better handle on where to go and what to do. My first stop after registration — the Birds of A Feather table, where you sign up to lunch with bloggers in your category. I noticed there was no sign up sheet for us single/lifestyle gals, so I created one.

BlogHer Co-founders: (from left) Jory Des Jardins, Elisa Camahort and Lisa Stone

During the conference’s kick off breakfast, BlogHer’s co-founders mentioned some staggering statistics. Nearly 56 million women read blogs monthly, while 67.5 million women use social media daily.

After the presentation, I caught up with fabulous queenofquirky, who introduced me to equally delightful DC-based author-coach-yoga teacher Ananda Leeke.  In the exhibit hall, loaded with exhibitors ranging from Healthy Choice and Pillsbury to Terra Chips and Got Milk, I stopped at Yahoo Shine ’s booth.

Ready For My Closeup: On set with gorgeous Yahoo Shine host Carleth Keys

The website was offering free makeovers and inviting ladies to share their on-camera stories of reinvention. I had the pleasure of being interviewed by New York 1 Noticias host Carleth Keys about my own path to reinvention. You can watch the clip on the sidebar.

Coming up…an inspiring lunch with new friends from BlogHer ’10 and a sexy soiree hosted by SingleEdition.com.

Girls Night Out: Cesca

December 10th, 2009 — 10:30pm

Monday, I headed to Cesca restaurant on NYC’s Upper West Side for a girls night out with my new friend Sherri, founder of SingleEdition.com.

Cesca: Delicious Italian fare in an upscale, intimate setting
Sherri and I connected a couple of months ago through our respective work in cyberspace and hit it off immediately after meeting at SingleEdition.com’s Live The Life You Love events.

Over a delicious dinner – during which Sherri introduced me to the unexpected delight of fried brussel sprouts – we talked about work, life and love.

Among the topics of our three-hour chat – the impact of having happily married parents and the challenge of finding commitment-minded men in NYC. Sherri met her Jersey-bred hubby on JDate.com. Though I’m officially over and done with online dating, I think it might be time for me to explore the bridge and tunnel crowd a little more closely.

If you’re looking tips and inspiration for living your best single life, head on over to SingleEdition.com. While you’re there, check out the site’s Just for One . It’s the perfect place to find something fabulous for your single friends, or even for yourself.

City Lights Gala

December 9th, 2009 — 12:07am

Sunday night, I enjoyed my first post-PDA injury outing and headed over to History Starts Now’s City Lights Gala.

HSN founders Kristina Lee Grandstaff (left), Rachael Lechliter and me at the City Lights Gala

Held at the swanky and intimate Aspen Social Club near Times Square, the event drew about 100 guests supporting HSN’s mission — to raise awareness for the fight against sex trafficking of minors in the U.S.

Smart and dedicated co-founders Rachael Lechliter and Kristina Lee Grandstaff gave a brief presentation that included the story of a young woman whose sister was trafficked in Queens. You can watch a video with her personal testimony at HSN’s website.

The crowd at Aspen Social Club

The gala featured open bar for the first hour and a yummy selection of hors d’oeuvres. While I was sampling a bite of cheese, email marketer Lak approached me.

“What are some of your favorite ‘cheesy’ events?“ he said, clearly amused by his food-inspired pun.

Lak sat down next to me, telling me about his recent divorce and move to NYC from Virginia and how difficult it is to meet people here.

Given the lopsided guy-girl ratio in Gotham, I was surprised by Lak’s complaint. And equally surprised when he said his taste is very specific, and that he prefers classy women. Since I practically trip over fabulous, single women every day, I’m skeptical of his claim that there’s a shortage of this type in the Big Apple.

“What are you doing for New Year’s?” he asked suddenly.

Though the invitation was a bit much after only five minutes of conversation, I appreciated Lak’s honesty about having to relearn the dating ropes after his eight-year marriage-induced sabbatical.

Equally candid about his single status – IT customer support rep Noah.

While chatting about the charms of the Pacific Northwest, Noah told me that his job requires being on the road 80% of the time, making it impossible to sustain a relationship. I nodded empathetically, newly grateful that most of my traveling is dictated by pleasure.

After taking a bite of the delicious cupcakes from Desserts by Tawny, I thanked the lovely hostesses and called it a night. The work that Kristina and Rachael are doing is truly inspiring. Visit History Starts Now’s website to find out how you can be a part of it.

Coming up…being minus a plus one at another wedding and dinner with SingleEdition.com founder Sherri Langburt.
