Last week, I headed over to the Empire Hotel on NYC’s Upper West Side for Paper Magazine and Tumblr’s Fashion Week soiree.

Held at the hotel’s spacious, swanky rooftop bar, the party gave me a chance to catch up with friend and fellow blogger, Giuseppe, in town from Sydney.

Catching Up: Giuseppe and me at the Empire rooftop

Giuseppe and I first connected a few years back, at the  of the first Sex And The City movie. His fabulous Cosmo Guy site about SATC has led to great success as a — Giuseppe was among a select few flown from Oz to cover various runway shows.

Over cocktails, we talked about the excitement and allure of New York (Giuseppe and his sweetheart are considering a move here). I admitted that, for as much as I still adore my hometown, all the traveling I’ve done over the last year has made me realize there’s much more to life than hustle and bustle.

Following your bliss, of course, is a big part of that, a subject that came up when we ran into Xavi, a friend of Giuseppe’s.

A native of Barcelona, Xavi told us about a chance encounter long ago on the subway with one of his favorite Spanish writers. That meeting produced an opportunity which eventually led to Xavi handling social media for one of pop biggest international superstars. If you believe and are willing to work hard, he said, everything is possible.

Good advice in both life — and love.

Earlier this week, I headed over to NYC’s 92nd Street Y to see Sarah Jessica Parker in conversation with public radio show host Leonard Lopate.

SJP and Leonard Lopate

During the 75-minute chat, SJP talked about her childhood, balancing work and family and, of course, Sex And The City. When Lopate asked how she manages to juggle her personal and professional lives, she said (to thunderous applause)–

“I’m a woman. If you want something done, ask a busy woman to do it.”

To keep work from encroaching on family time, SJP told the crowd she and hubby Matthew Broderick rarely run lines together. Which meant, during the SATC years, she was often learning the next day’s script on her way home.

SJP was casually chic in a sleeveless grey dress, fitted black shirt and black patent heels

Speaking of SATC, SJP admitted she was reluctant to do to the show at first, because she didn’t want to commit to a long-term series.

“I did think maybe nobody will watch it and…that will be good,” she said. “ But from the second episodes, I never looked back. It was such a unique experience to play that kind of character for so long. I think I miss that.”

When it came to shoot SATC’s finale, SJP wanted to be surprised so she didn’t the read the last scene’s script until five minutes before shooting it. Lopate asked if she had a hand in Carrie choosing Big.

“No,” she said. “But there was no choice to be made. It was the choice.”

Of her passion for doing varied work as both an actor/producer and entrepreneur, SJP admitted part of it stems from not going to college.

“I already regretted it. That’s why I love to learn, and New York is a city filled with lessons every day.”

After SJP, I managed to catch the tail end of Hoda Kotb’s book signing. I’m happy to report the popular Today Show anchor is both friendly and beautiful in person.

Hoda and me at her book signing

She chatted amiably with everyone, gladly posing for photos and hugging at least one fan who was overcome by meeting her. A true class act.

Coming up…rethinking NYC’s lopsided male-female ratio and the answer to a popular question about my European Dating Blitz.

Readers of this blog know I’m a big fan of ’ “Sex And The City” Hotspots Tour. Which is why I’m excited to announce that OLT is giving away a pair of tickets to one lucky Single Gal In the City follower!

You can follow in the fab four’s footsteps with the SATC Hotspots Tour

I’ve had the pleasure of doing the SATC Hotspots Tour twice and loved it both times. It covers some of the most memorable locations from the series and both movies — including, of course, Carrie Bradshaw’s stoop.

To enter the contest, email me your favorite SATC moment at SingleGalInTheCity@gmail.com. All entries must be received by Friday July 16th.

Last night, I celebrated today’s opening of “Sex And The City 2” by climbing aboard SATC Hotspots Tour (see blog sidebar link for Single Gal In The City reader discount).

All Aboard: On Location Tours’ Meagan and me

The three-hour journey, now includes locations from both the series and the movies, kicks off at Pulitzer Fountain in front of The Plaza. Among the additions since I last did it in 2006 — Buddakan, site of Carrie and Big’s rehearsal dinner, and jeweler Alexis Bittar, who co-designed baubles with Patricia Field featured in SATC 2.

As we made our way through Midtown, the West Village and SoHo, I was excited to find myself sitting next to freelance writer Carrie Seim.

Carrie interviewed me in March by email for her about leaving New York to find love. A part-time LA resident, she told me she has no problem meeting men when she visits the Big Apple. There really is something about changing your zip code to spice up your love life.

Much to my great delight, Carrie introduced me to dating expert and author Julie Spira. We talked about the ups and downs of long-distance relationships, and about Andrea Syrtash’s smart new book, He’s Just Not Your Type (And That’s A Good Thing).

Also joining in the fun, wedding gown designer Matthew Christopher. He had us laughing when he said a few Norweigan tourists complained that the tour wasn’t what she had expected.

“I told her, ‘Honey, don’t build it up, just let it happen.’ ”

Good advice when it comes to dating too.

Wednesday night, my good friend Caroline and I headed out to Brooklyn for an evening of fun and fabulous food at our Quinn & Co. galpal Morgan’s abode.

Girls Night In: Caroline, me and Morgan

Nestled in the hipster hamlet of Williamsburg, the apartment that Morgan shares with France-born hubby Arthur is a perfect reflection of them — chic, inviting and warm.

One of the most well-matched, likeable couples you could ever hope to meet, Morgan and Arthur treated us and a handful of friends to a scrumptious homemade meal that included two kinds of quiche, chocolate pie and, bien sur, plenty of wine and cheese. It’s no accident that the French are renowned for their hospitality.

Joined by Morgan’s lovely galpals Prune and Judith, we toasted with a round of cosmos before settling in for the evening’s main event — a “Sex And The City” marathon.

Cheers: (from left to right) Judith, Morgan, Prune, me and Caroline

The men played cards as we curled up with season one of SATC which, outdated hair and fashion notwithstanding, holds up surprisingly well a decade later. Or maybe it’s just, now that I’m a mid-thirtysomething single, I relate to Carrie & Co. on a more visceral level than I used to.

Whatever the case may be, one thing’s for sure. Like a pitcher of cosmos, laughter and good food are infinitely more enjoyable when experienced with your girlfriends.
