Celebrating The Season With SingleEdition

December 8th, 2010 — 7:07pm

Monday night, I headed over to Ardesia wine bar in NYC’s Midtown West for SingleEdition‘s first annual holiday party.

Celebrating The Season: SingleEdition.com founder Sherri Langburt and me

The cozy gathering featured delicious wines and hors d’oeuvres and a veritable who’s who’s of the dating blogger scene here in Gotham. I had the chance to catch up with SingleCityGuy, JackFromBklyn, Cece of The Big Girl Blog, Simone Grant and Issa of SingleMamaNYC.

Simone, Issa and I shared our top blogging pet peeves — the tendency of some anonymous readers to post mean-spirited, unsolicited advice. Like the random weirdo from Indiana who somehow got a hold of my cell phone number and texted me his tips for finding Mr. Right (in a nutshell, lose 40 pounds and color my hair. How insightful!).

While mingling, I also had the pleasure of meeting Kim, founder of DatingDivaDaily. Kim and I quickly hit it off, talking about the perils of dating a friend, the bizarre allure of reality show fame and the joy of connecting with fellow singles who understand the quirks of dating in Gotham.

The longer I’m here in my hometown, the more convinced I am that good men reside outside of the metropolitan NYC area — i.e., not in Manhattan. Which is why I’m looking forward to my date this weekend with a Bronx resident.

Bloggers In Babeland Party

August 10th, 2010 — 3:45pm

Friday, after day one of BlogHer ‘10, I headed down to SoHo for SingleEdition.com’s Bloggers in Babeland party.

Bloggers In Babeland: Cyber Dating Expert Julie Spira, me and SingleEdition.com’s Sherri Langburt

While taking in the, ahem, colorful products at the sex toy shop, I had the chance to catch up with some of the best dating bloggers out there — including Simone Grant, Jack from Brooklyn & .

I also spent some time with SingleEdition.com founder and friend Sherri. Recently back from Spain, Sherri gave me a great icebreaking tip for mingling on my upcoming European Dating Blitz — bring sunflower seeds to share with fellow bar patrons. Sounds delicious to me.

The soiree was a celebration for the fantastic new network that SingleEdition is launching for single bloggers. This is a great opportunity to grow readership and connect with fellow bloggers and advertising partners. I can’t wait to sign up.

For more info about the network and how you can be a part of it, email info@singleedition.com.

Up next…up close and personal with Nate Berkus and a report from the red carpet premiere of Eat, Pray, Love!

The Smart Woman’s Guide To Online Dating

December 29th, 2009 — 9:18pm

When it comes to candid, common sense talk about sex and dating, nobody does it better than fellow NYC-based blogger Simone Grant. Now, Simone is sharing her wisdom about looking for love in cyberspace in The Smart Woman’s Guide To Online Dating.

Simone Grant demystifies the often-tricky world of online dating in her fabulous e-book (photo courtesy: 2ChicksInc)

Based upon a decade of experience with meeting men online, the e-book covers everything you need to know about Internet dating — from identifying which dating site is right for you and selecting which photo(s) to include in your profile, to the most effective ways to communicate with potential dates.

Simone shares my view that, if meeting a guy face to face is your end goal, skip the IM/chat function and head straight to email and phone. And, she says, stick to a two-week rule of graduating from initial contact to getting together in person.

If you’re looking to save yourself time and make the most of online dating, this is the guide for you. Click to get a copy.

Girls Night Out X 2

December 4th, 2009 — 10:10pm

Tuesday night, I enjoyed a girls night out double header that began at the Empire Hotel’s rooftop bar, where I caught up with new galpal Amy.

Amy and I connected at an ADL gala back in October and discovered we’re both regulars on the charitable event circuit. Having lost my number one wing woman to the throes of marital bliss, I was excited when Amy volunteered to hit the town with me.

Over drinks, we talked about upcoming events we’re planning to attend and the importance of looking your best when catching up with an old flame.

After Amy and I parted company, I headed down to Vintage bar in Hell’s Kitchen, where I enjoyed a few cocktails with fellow dating bloggers Simone and Lost Plum.

The three of us traded observations about the mommy blogger mafia’s hold on corporate America, and the perils of dating men with high-powered jobs and a penchant for text messaging.

“That sounds like my last five relationships,” Simone quipped.

When it comes to sassy, candid takes on singlehood in NYC, it doesn’t get any better than Simone and Lost Plum. Do yourself a favor and check out their fabulous blogs.
