From 8 pm – midnight, the bar will have its very own “Cocktail Cupid” serving the night’s signature drink, The Wrecking Ball – comprised of strawberry simple syrup, Ketel One, fresh lime juice and champagne.

Guests that spot someone they like, can purchase The Wrecking Ball drink from the Cocktail Cupid, who will personally deliver it while discreetly pointing out who the admiring sender is. Connection Caddies will also be placed throughout the bar, filled with vintage valentines to fill out that the Cocktail Cupid can send with the drink.

To cap the night off, anyone who sends The Wrecking Ball to a crush will be automatically entered to win great prizes including a one-night stay at Andaz Wall Street with breakfast in bed, bar tab for the night to be on the house (up to $100) and a cooking lesson for two with the hotel’s Executive Chef, Victor Cruz.

How will you be celebrating Valentine’s Day? At the top of my February 14th to do list—making sure the people I love know how fortunate I feel to have them in my life.

Singles Event Pick: New Year’s Eve Party

December 25th, 2013 — 2:09pm

Champagne Though there’s no shortage of ways to celebrate New Year’s in NYC, finding the right one isn’t always easy–especially if you don’t want to break the budget. Croton Lounge has a festive option for singles that’s not too pricey.

The Midtown venue is hosting a party for singles ages 20-early 40s. The event includes open bar from 7-8pm, DJ and dancing all night, ice breakers, prizes and a complimentary Champagne toast at midnight. Tickets are just $65 until Friday December 27th (regular price $100). Click here to get tickets and use promo code NYE2014 to get $20 off the current price.

As for me, I’ll be spending this final December 31st of my thirties away from the hustle and bustle–with friends in New Jersey.

With the big 4-0 less than a month away, I want to ring in 2014 quietly taking stock of everything and everyone that has brought me to this milestone in my life. It’s definitely a time for counting my blessings, and I feel very thankful to say there’s a long list of them.

Merry Christmas!

Singles Event Pick: Bring A Wingman Party

July 26th, 2012 — 2:01pm

Readers of this blog know I’m a big fan of speed dating. From my experience, HurryDate is still the leader when it comes to attracting a great crowd – so I was excited to hear from host Alison Kaufman that they’re hosting a “Bring A Wingman Party” next month.

Urban Girl Squad’s Speakeasy Party

October 27th, 2011 — 9:57pm

Last week, I headed down to SoHo for Urban Girl Squad ‘s latest Friend of a Friend singles party. Joining me in the fun at cozy, downstairs speakeasy The Vault at Pfaff’s, my bachelor friend Sachin.

Sach and me at the party

Like the last UGS mixer I went to, this one was well attended (150 people) and the staff did a good job of circulating and making sure everyone was having fun. That said, mingling was a lot harder to do this time because UGS didn’t provide icebreaker questions and answers. Without them, it was harder to tell who was with a friend versus who was mid flirt, and most of the crowd seemed less outgoing.

Many of the guys, in fact, stuck to the all- too-New York trend of avoiding eye contact. Case in point: a tall, cute recruiter whom I smiled at. When I ended up making small talk with cute guy and his friends about this specific tendency, I couldn’t resist calling him out on it.

I also chatted with a pair of much friendlier bachelors — who asked why I’m still single. When I asked them the same question, one said—

“I haven’t been doing anything about it lately.”

It was a different story for my friend Sachin. Sach admitted he’s been going on dates several times a week for awhile now. The result has been either no chemistry or women who end up having a boyfriend or husband.

As we shared our dating woes over some yummy cocktails, I was reminded that – even though it’s easy to think otherwise — it’s not always easier for single guys than it is for us gals. And that being on the prowl is always more fun when you’ve got a good wingman.

Urban Girl Squad’s Five-Star Singles Party

June 17th, 2011 — 5:01pm

Last night, I headed down to Pranna in NYC’s Flatiron district for Urban Girl Squad’s Friend of A Friend Party.

The friendly (and evenly co-ed) crowd at Urban Girl Squad's party

The social networking group knows how to throw a party — this one attracted 150 people. Best of all, unlike a lot of other singles events in NYC, UGS’ party had a 50/50 guy-girl ratio. The premise of bringing an unattached friend of the opposite sex is a truly effective one.

Sachin and me getting in touch with our fiesta groove

My plus one was bachelor friend Sachin. He had me laughing when he said a 23-year-old had approached him but he wasn’t interested. I told him he must be one of the only single guys in the Big Apple not looking for a much younger woman (as a longtime fan of May-December romance, though, I recognize I have no right to complain about this).

Urban Girl Squad’s party planners made it easy for everyone to mingle, providing fun icebreakers — trivia questions for the guys, answers for the ladies — and good incentive to answer them: find your icebreaker match and you could enter a raffle for great prizes ($500 bike, anyone?).

What impressed me most about the party, though, was the crowd’s diversity in terms of age, profession and personality. You had your urban hipster types, GQ wannabes and artistic sweethearts.

Of the three bachelors I chatted with, J, my favorite, fell into the latter category.

As soon as we locked eyes, we both smiled. I told J that Sachin was trying to find out which president was the only one unanimously elected. Without missing a beat, J said George Washington, referring to him as GW. When I teased him about being so chummy with the first president, it led to a playful conversation about time travel and creative dreams.

I learned J is an aspiring author with a talent for dancing, playing the trombone — and being chivalrous. After we exchanged business cards and before he left the party, J kissed my hand. Yes, I think I swooned a little at that.

Thanks, Urban Girl Squad, for the invite. Want to find out what’s coming up on the group’s calendar? .

Singles Event Pick: Bootleggers’ Ball

December 27th, 2010 — 5:23pm

If you’re looking for a festive way to ring in 2011 without breaking the bank, you might want to check out the Bootleggers’ Ball.

Hosted by offbeat social group Gemini N Scorpio, the speakeasy-themed event kicks off at 8pm on New Year’s Eve. It will take place at Brooklyn’s Irondale Performing Arts Center, located inside a 19th century church with soaring ceilings, stained glass windows and wraparound balcony.
“Expect the intimacy of a daring cabaret mixed with the intrigue of a vintage costumed ball, expansiveness of a warehouse dance party, excitement of live brass, a splash of fine cocktails, and just a dash of illicit adventure and unpredictable moments,” reads the event’s Facebook description.

The lineup of entertainment ranges from Dixieland steamboat soul and Circus-gypsy parlor-jazz to aerial stunts and Tarot/numerology readings. Dress code for the costumed event?

“Depression glamour, evening ball on the Titanic, hobo formal, desperation derring-do.”

Custom vintage-themed buttons to VIPs/first 75 guests by Bad Buttons. Free Champagne for the first hour and show kicks off at 9pm with silent shorts curated by the Boston Underground Film Festival.

A $35 presale for the Bootleggers’ Ball runs through today. Tickets will then be $40 or (if available) $50 at the door. for more info.
